Getting kids into crafts?

In the UK at least, there used to a few different TV shows that tried to get kids into arts and crafts..

I don't really know of any these days.. kids TV seems to practically all CG animated cartoons :?


Am I wrong, are there any modern alternatives? Did you have similar shows in the US? Have you ever done a craft from one of these shows with your kids?

I don't have kids but I have been around them enough to know they like to mimic. If mom or dad is into something, they usually pass it on to their kids. Even if a parent isn't into crafts per se, just thinking outside that proverbial box & letting the imagination go, you'll find so many ideas that pop in your child's head. Don't hold them back. If they seem to have an interest in something, exaggerate that interest & do what you can to hone it.
 
Based on my experience with my 3 year old... she ALWAYS loves to do arts and crafts. We did the construction paper rings thing for Christmas and she had a blast decorating those.

Some of these suggestions are amazing and I've got to be honest are a bit advanced even for me. If she ever wanted to give it a go though I wouldn't mind!
 
I think it's great to get young kids into it, I mean if they start early and learn at an early age it will help them in the long term and never know that might make a business out of it. Just need a very good teacher or books and gear. Hell, the boys can even do it. There are far more males nowadays that do knitting and crafts than females. Don't forget that males always been doing knitting and whatnot back in the early 1600AD, they always repeating there clothings :p
 
My girls all love arts and crafts, I really wish I had more time and ability to nurture this for them.
