Making stuff animals

Is making stuff animals a good crafting experience or should it just be bought at the store? And is it a good idea for a gift?

I have a hard time sewing the fabric needed for most stuffed animals and making it look decent. I enjoyed making memory bears, which are kind of like a stuffed animal but more for display. The review for the pattern is here on the site.

I would say if you have the time and the patience it can be a very good crafting experience and great for gifts. I know people who make stuffed animals for things like charity markets and sell them and all funds go to charity. These are usually bought for gifts as well.

The only stuffed animal I made was in High School in our Home-Ec class. It was a fawn & didn't turn out well at all. I was never good at sewing & I think stuffed animals should be reserved for those with more advanced experience.
For those who have made any, what was the easiest to hardest ones you've made? I'd say the fawn was not ideal due to the little white spots I had to sew on at the end.
